What is an IBAN and a SWIFT code?

The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is the identifier, in an international context, of a bank account number, authenticating the country, the Bank and the beneficiary’s account. The IBAN is usually 25 characters, the first two being letters with the country code. You can easily find the IBAN in your bank statement.

The SWIFT code (or BIC, as sometimes called) is a bank identification code. It varies depending on the bank and is usually between 8 and 11 characters.

The IBAN and SWIFT/BIC codes are required in all international operations to and from Europe.
